Pokémon Gold Version and
Silver Version (ポケットモンスター 金・銀 Poketto Monsutā Kin Gin?, "Pocket Monsters: Gold & Silver") are the second installments of the
Pokémon series of
role-playing video games developed by
Game Freak and published by
Nintendo for the
Game Boy, although developed with the
Game Boy Color
in mind and thus marketed as a Game Boy Color title. This is further
confirmed by the Japanese box art for the games, where it reads "Shared
cartridge for Game Boy & Color."
(ゲームボーイ & カラー共通カートリッジ Gēmu Bōi & Karā kyōtsū kātorijji?). They were first released in Japan in 1999 and to Australia and North America in 2000 and Europe in 2001.
Pokémon Crystal, a special edition version, was released for the same console roughly a year later in each region. In 2009, Nintendo
remade Gold and
Silver for the
Nintendo DS as
Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
